Yesterday, in the last group-stage match of the FIBA U19 World Cup in Switzerland, Jasper Johnson, a freshman for the Kentucky Wildcats, gave Team USA his greatest performance to date. Johnson showed excellent defensive reflexes and efficient transition scoring in the third and final pool game, playing 11 minutes off the bench and dishing out 11 points (4/8 FG and 3/5 on 3s), one assist, one steal, and one rebound.
Earlier in the competition, Johnson earned accolades for his poise and positive plus/minus (+8) after scoring six points in 15 minutes during a resounding 88–73 opening victory over Australia.
Coaches have praised his maturity, decision-making, and eagerness to make winning plays, demonstrating his clear progress.
Seeing Mark Pope travel to support his man was fantastic. Johnson’s Freshman campaign is generating a lot of buzz. I’m very excited to see him in the blue and white outfit!
