Harry Kane holding a’meeting’ with Thomas Tuchel as evidence of Arsenal’s $49 million transfer showing Liverpool priority

Liverpool rivals round-up: Harry Kane has reportedly held a meeting with Thomas Tuchel, while Arsenal has agreed a deal with Ajax for a defender linked with Liverpool

The transfer window is starting to move into gear after Liverpool set the early pace among its rivals.

The Reds have of course already secured two new arrivals this summer, with Dominik Szoboszlai arriving in a $76m (£60m/€70m) deal from RB Leipzig on Sunday to join Alexis Mac Allister at Anfield.

The focus for Jürgen Klopp now turns to his next transfer priority, which looks likely to lie in the Reds’ defense. But while the Liverpool boss and Jörg Schmadtke work on their next deal, clubs elsewhere are beginning to come to the party.

Manchester United has finally confirmed the signing of Mason Mount, and it seems they might not be the only club to announce a big signing this week.

Various reports are now suggesting Arsenal is closing in on a defender previously linked with Liverpool, while speculation continues over the future of Harry Kane as his Tottenham contract enters its final year.

Here, Liverpool.com takes a scan around the other big sides in the Premier League and around Europe to take a look at the news going on at the other clubs.

Harry Kane holds talks with Thomas Tuchel

Harry Kane has held a meeting with Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel and told the German of his desire to win the Champions League with the club, according to BILD (via the Express).

Kane has been strongly linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, and Tuchel has reportedly visited the England captain at his London home amid reports that Bayern are preparing to submit another offer.

Liverpool.com says: A move to Germany might be the best option for Kane this summer, with Tottenham seemingly unwilling to let him join a Premier League rival. The 29-year-old doesn’t need silverware in order to prove how great a player he is, although Bayern would almost certainly guarantee him that, and Spurs would surely not be stupid enough to let him leave for free next summer.

Arsenal agrees Jurrien Timber deal

Arsenal has reached a ‘full agreement’ with Ajax as it close in on the signing of Jurrien Timber, according to The Athletic.

The deal for the Netherlands international will come to around $49m (£39m/€45m) in total with bonuses, with Timber granted permission to undergo a medical and finalize personal terms with Arsenal.

Liverpool.com says: It wasn’t that long ago that Liverpool was being linked with a move for Timber (as per the Daily Mail) and given the price Arsenal is set to pay for him, you’d imagine he wouldn’t have posed many problems financially for the Reds. The decision not to pursue him perhaps shows where Liverpool’s priorities lie, and a left-footed center-back now seems the most likely next transfer.
