Liverpool rivals round-up: Harry Kane reportedly held a secret meeting with PSG over his future, while Liverpool will be watching Manchester United’s takeover with interest.
With the transfer window now officially open, Liverpool’s summer is only expected to get busier as Jürgen Klopp’s rebuild continues.
Alexis Mac Allister is of course already through the door, but now the focus turns to who will join him at Anfield
Plenty of names have been mentioned, and it will be up to Klopp and new sporting director Jörg Schmadtke to work their way through the options in order to give Liverpool the best chance of challenging Manchester City again next season.
But the Reds will also be keeping a keen eye on matters elsewhere, having already seen Jude Bellingham complete his move to Real Madrid. No doubt Harry Kane’s future will be of great interest to plenty of Liverpool’s supporters, while the situation at Manchester United could have an impact as a potential takeover rumbles on.
Kane’s secret meeting with PSG
Harry Kane’s representatives reportedly held a secret meeting with Paris Saint-Germain chiefs last month as the Tottenham striker considers his future.
Kane is once again being heavily linked with a move away from Spurs this summer, having enjoyed a stellar season personally despite his club’s dismal campaign overall. With the England captain’s contract in North London set to expire next year, this could be the last opportunity for Tottenham to get a fee for him.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to sell to a fellow Premier League side though, leaving a move abroad as the only other option. Real Madrid has been linked, while Foot Mercato claims Kane’s entourage met with PSG transfer chief Luis Campos last month to hold an informal conversation over his future
Kane surely has to move on from Tottenham this summer. It has been obvious for some time that the 29-year-old should be at a club winning trophies, and finishing second behind Erling Haaland with 30 goals last season only further demonstrated that.
