Liverpool and Manchester United swapped places in the Premier League table last season but things appear to be heading back on track again for Jürgen Klopp.
Former England defender turned Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville expressed his admiration for Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, stating that he would bring Klopp to Manchester United if given the opportunity. Neville commended Klopp for the remarkable job he has done at Anfield since taking over from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool has been nothing short of extraordinary. In his first game in charge, a youthful and inexperienced Liverpool team managed to secure a 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. Since then, Klopp has guided the Reds to numerous successes, establishing them as one of Europe’s top teams.
Under Klopp’s leadership, Liverpool has won their first Premier League title, as well as the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup. Neville acknowledged Klopp’s ability to achieve these triumphs with a budget that is considerably lower than that of Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, and so he puts the German ahead of the former Barcelona boss.
While Neville recognized Guardiola as a genius who will be remembered forever, he emphasized that Klopp is an amazing manager in his own right. When asked to name the best coach in the world currently, Neville responded with Klopp’s name. He further revealed that if given the opportunity, he would choose Klopp to replace Erik ten Hag.
“I’d say Jurgen Klopp,” Neville claimed on The Daily Ketchup podcast. “Jürgen Klopp works with a budget which is far less than Pep Guardiola. Pep Guardiola’s a genius, and he’ll be the one who will be remembered forever more. But Jürgen Klopp, for me, is an amazing manager. If you said to me which manager could I bring to Manchester United tomorrow, it would be Jürgen Klopp.”
The praise for Klopp comes at a time when Manchester United finds itself trailing behind Liverpool by six points in the Premier League table. Neville’s endorsement of Klopp highlights the impact the German manager has had on Liverpool’s success and raises questions about United’s managerial choices.
As United prepares to face Everton at Goodison Park in their next match, Neville’s comments add an interesting perspective to the ongoing discussions surrounding the club’s future. While United has had its fair share of managerial changes in recent years, Neville’s endorsement of Klopp as the ideal candidate to lead the team suggests that a change in leadership could be beneficial for the club.
Neville’s admiration for Klopp is a testament to the Liverpool manager’s achievements and the respect he has garnered within the football community. Klopp’s ability to transform Liverpool into a dominant force in English and European football has not gone unnoticed, and his impact extends beyond the confines of Anfield.
