Liverpool knows when it will have some more clarity over André. Amid transfer interest from FSG, super-agent Jorge Mendes is now supposedly getting involved.
Liverpool fans are eagerly awaiting the outcome of Fluminense’s Copa Libertadores quarter-final clash against Olimpia.
The result of the two-legged tie — which takes place on August 25 and September 1 — could have a significant impact on the Reds’ pursuit of midfielder André as transfer deadline day approaches. While a victory for Fluminense would likely end any hopes of a late deal for André, an exit for the Brazilian club could potentially reopen negotiations between the two sides, with the second leg being played in the early hours of deadline day.
Liverpool’s focus in the final week of the transfer window remains on strengthening its midfield. André has emerged as a target for FSG, with communications having been established between the Reds and Fluminense at the beginning of August.
The 22-year-old midfielder has impressed both domestically and internationally, earning a call-up to the Brazil national team. Fluminense considers André to be a vital part of its squad, especially as it continues its Copa Libertadores campaign, reports the Liverpool ECHO.
The club is reluctant to part ways with the talented player while it still has a chance at lifting the prestigious South American trophy. Fluminense’s head coach Fernando Diniz — who is the current interim manager of Brazil — has included André in the national team’s squad for its upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
André is considered to be one of the most valuable players in Brazil alongside Palmeiras striker Endrick, who has already secured a move to Real Madrid in 2024. Fluminense is determined to retain André until at least January as it strives for success in the Libertadores.
The club’s President, Mario Bittencour,t has made it clear that the club will not entertain any offers for André in 2023. He said earlier this year: “We informed the player and the player’s representatives that we would not sell André in the course of 2023.
People need to always remember and think that there is the life of the athlete. Obviously he has the desire, everyone has, to seek financial independence and play outside Brazil.
“However, we told the athlete’s representatives that we would not even hear proposals. We don’t want to listen. And here I make a thank you of loyalty to the athlete and to the representatives who every time they were sought gave the answers of the club.”
But André’s potential and profile make him an attractive long-term replacement for Thiago Alcântara in Liverpool’s midfield
