Lexington Native Jaylan Green Returns to Kentucky to Launch Coaching Career
The Kentucky Wildcats are welcoming back a hometown favorite, as former Frederick Douglass High School standout Jaylan Green has joined the men’s basketball staff as a graduate assistant for the 2025–26 season, according to an announcement on his Twitter account.
A Lexington native with strong ties to the local basketball scene, Green brings both talent and familiarity to the program. During his senior year at Frederick Douglass, he averaged 16.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, earning a variety of postseason honors before beginning his college career at Transylvania University, just minutes from home.
While at Transy, Green developed into one of the top players in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, earning First-Team All-Conference honors in both 2022–23 and 2023–24. He wrapped up his junior season averaging 17.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, and leading the team in scoring, three-point shooting, and steals.
He later transferred to Ohio Dominican University to pursue a Master’s in Data Analytics, while continuing to play. In his final college season, Green appeared in 28 games and contributed 5.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in just over 16 minutes per game.
Now, Green returns to his roots, this time swapping his jersey for a clipboard as he starts his coaching career. His addition aligns with head coach Mark Pope’s commitment to developing young coaching talent with deep Kentucky ties, and his journey—from local high school star to Rupp Arena staffer—offers a story the Big Blue Nation can truly rally behind.
