Five Celtics who are competing to secure their Boston futures

In the final stretch, these Celtics are fighting for their spot on the team.

 

The playoffs will determine the Boston Celtics’ season even though they are among the favorites to win the championship and have the best record. In Beantown, it’s either championship or bust. In the previous seven years, they have advanced to the conference finals five times. This campaign won’t be effective without a title.

Before the All-Star break, the Celtics had won 43 of their 55 games and had only lost three at home. They will have a significant advantage in the postseason and are certain to receive homecourt. The team possesses the greatest top six in the NBA, but success mostly depends on playing well when it matters.

5. Tillman Xavier
Just before the trade deadline, the Celtics acquired Tillman from the Grizzlies for Lamar Stevens and two second-round draft selections. This season, in 20.6 minutes a game, the 6’8 big man is averaging 6.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.0 block. Although his shooting percentage is far from ideal, the 25-year-old still has potential to improve.

Tillman’s knee ailment has prevented him from playing for the Celtics. He didn’t play for the team until January 29, but it looks like he will be back in their opening game following the All-Star break.

In his last year of a deal, Xavier Tillman will be looking for a large payoff this summer. The 6’8 big man will be free to sign with any team, and Boston has already committed $201 million in salary for him. In addition to Tillman’s pay, the Celtics will also be responsible for luxury tax penalties, which quickly adds up in money.

 

Luke Kornet and Xavier Tillman will compete for the third big man spot on the Boston Celtics, behind Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford. In order to continue, the 25-year-old needs to solidify his position and demonstrate that he is an essential member of their rotation.
