Federico Valverde shuts out a transfer to Chelsea or Liverpool

Federico Valverde has quashed rumours linking him with Chelsea and Liverpool, insisting he is happy at Real Madrid.

In an interview with ESPN Argentina, as relayed by Evening Standard, Federico Valverde has responded to rumours linking him with Chelsea and Liverpool. And the Uruguayan utility man has insisted that he does not want to leave Real Madrid anytime soon.

Valverde said, “No, no – I’m at Real Madrid Madrid, trying to enjoy every moment and leave my mark on the best club in the world. I want to keep winning titles for Real Madrid fans.”

Federico Valverde has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the world since joining Real Madrid from Penarol in July 2016. After biding his time for two years, he established a foothold in the first-team squad. And the 24-year-old has not looked back since then.

The Uruguayan international has been impressive with his ability to reprise multiple roles, with Carlo Ancelotti bringing the best out of him. And Valverde amassed 12 goals and seven assists in 56 appearances this past season. Meanwhile, his market value has risen to €100 million, And the player’s progress has captured the attention of several top clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool.

Chelsea will likely lose multiple midfielders in the summer transfer window. While N’Golo Kante is on the verge of joining Al-Ittihad, Mateo Kovacic might move to Manchester City. In addition, recent reports have linked Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek with summer departures from Chelsea.

So it behoves Chelsea to scour the market for midfield reinforcements. And Valverde has emerged as a viable target for the West London club. But the Blues face stiff competition from Liverpool for the Real Madrid utility man.

Like their Premier League rivals, the Reds are losing multiple midfielders this summer. In addition, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were dreadful this past season for Liverpool. And while Alexis Mac Allister has already joined Liverpool, they need to sign more midfielders ahead of the 2023/24 season.

But Chelsea and Liverpool have to set their sights elsewhere, with Valverde happy at Real Madrid. It will be interesting to see who the two clubs turn to as they look to bolster their midfield units this summer
