Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Chelsea are about to miss out on one signing to one of their Premier League rivals.
He took to Twitter to state that Brighton were closing in on a deal to sign Valentin Barco from Boca Juniors, with a deal in place to be finalised this week.
Barco has been on the radar of a number of top clubs ever since his season in Argentina came to an end.
He has been already described by those who know him well as a ‘super talent’, and he has been wanted pretty much all across Europe.
Chelsea are one of the sides who have reportedly been targeting him, with it being claimed that they were considering a left-back addition if they sold Ian Maatsen.
Now, it has been claimed that a deal is in place for the Dutchman to move to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season, and that will leave their options in that role limited due to injuries.
However, Romano has now claimed that a deal is set to be in place for him to make the move to Brighton instead.
He said: “Brighton are closing in on Valentín Barco deal! Meeting with Boca taking place today, Brighton are set to trigger $10m release clause.
“The agreement will be finalised this week with all documents to be prepared in the next days. Here we go, coming soon.”
With the future of Maatsen still looking as if it is going to be away from Chelsea in the coming seasons, January looked a really good opportunity for the club to address the position potentially for years to come.
Now, they will be hoping there are no setbacks in recoveries for Ben Chilwell or Marc Cucurella as they will face an extended spell in the side for the remainder of the campaign at least.
