Less than 24 hours after the season ended, Liverpool’s number 28—who has played just 21 times in his debut season—seemed destined to leave Anfield.
Liverpool reportedly rejected a “big money bid” from a Champions League team, RB Leipzig, despite conflicting claims on the club and player’s preferences either a loan or a permanent move.
On Monday, Carvalho posted something on Instagram while everything was happening, but what ultimately got people’s attention were the comments he received.
Next top model, to which Carvalho responded, “all I do now,” and “Fresh home,” both from Anthony Elanga of Manchester United. and the response was “soon.”
It’s relevant and interesting that the footballer has returned to Lisbon, where he was born and raised.
On a day when his future was put in the limelight, it might not take much to infer ulterior motives from seemingly innocent words.
The specific remark about modeling being “all I do now” is indicative of him receiving more attention for the club’s partnership with Converse than playing time.
Throughout the course of his rookie season, the No. 28 was on the field for only 637 minutes.
Although the 20-year-old admitted in the past that he did not join Liverpool to serve as a campaign model, the club has taught him “patience and the importance of taking your chances.”
You can only hope that this story doesn’t have a depressing conclusion and that Carvalho finds a team that will use him frequently; whether that’s on loan or a permanent transfer is still up in the air.
