The Scottish Premiership season came to a dramatic climax on Sunday, with two ex-Liverpool players instrumental in a three-goal comeback to avoid relegation.
Luke Chambers, a Reds loanee, concluded his stay at Kilmarnock at the end of May with a 3-1 victory over Ross County that guaranteed his team’s safety.
Ross County, however, would have to play Partick Thistle in a playoff to determine who would win the final spot in the Premiership for the upcoming season.
Due to Dylan Smith’s early dismissal in the first leg, the hosts were without him, although former Liverpool players Connor Randall and Yan Dhanda both started.
After Ross County fell behind by one goal, Randall and Dhanda—who departed Anfield in 2019 and 2018, respectively—were instrumental in the team’s victorious comeback.
After Partick Thistle’s Brian Graham committed a handball, Ross County was given a penalties, which Dhanda converted for his sixth goal of the year.
After that, they added another goal through Simon Murray, and in stoppage time, Dhanda set up George Harmon for a goal that made the final score 3-3 overall.
On Thursday, Partick Thistle seized a two-goal lead in the first leg, setting up a tense conclusion at Ross County Stadium.
After 30 minutes of extra time, neither team was able to break the tie, so a penalty shootout was necessary, which Ross County won 5-4.
Dhanda scored his team’s first penalty kick, displaying the poise and skill that made him such a gifted young player at Liverpool.
Victory marks a fourth straight season in the Scottish Premier League for Randall, who made eight appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and joined Ross County from Bulgarian club Arda Kardzhali in 2020.
