Ex-Duke Coach Secures Top Transfer Portal Pickup for New Team

On Wednesday, the Miami Hurricanes made a notable addition to their offseason roster overhaul as freshman wing Marcus Allen, a transfer from Missouri, officially committed to the team through the NCAA transfer portal.

Allen, a 6-foot-6 guard from Norland High School in Miami, was rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports before joining the Tigers in 2024.

During his time at Missouri, he appeared in 26 games, averaging 9.2 minutes, 2.6 points, and 2.0 rebounds per game

On January 1, he delivered his top performance of the season, tallying nine points, five rebounds, and three steals in 22 minutes during a loss to Auburn.

Allen’s decision to transfer to Miami for the 2025-26 season was reported on X by Joe Tipton of On3Sports.

Miami was among the first schools to express interest in Allen during his high school recruitment, along with Missouri, Florida State, Indiana, and several others.

Now, he’s returning home to South Beach to play under new head coach Jai Lucas, a former Duke assistant.

A former McDonald’s All-American, Lucas previously served as an assistant at Texas and Kentucky before joining Duke’s coaching staff from 2022 to 2025.

After a strong 2024-25 season as associate head coach under Jon Scheyer, Lucas was appointed head coach of the Miami Hurricanes.

For Miami, coming off a rough 7-24 season that saw them finish at the bottom of the ACC with a 3-17 conference record, Allen’s commitment is a timely boost.

With Allen in the mix, the Hurricanes gain added depth on the wing—an area that struggled with roster depletion last season.
