Despite an embarrassing moment in the final where the referee had to warn supporters to stop disturbing the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan praised the “great” crowd at the World Masters of Snooker in Saudi Arabia.
In the final, O’Sullivan defeated Luca Brecel, the current world champion, 5-2, taking home £250,000 in prize money. But when he was leading Brecel 3-2 early in the game, he was irritated by the spectators.
O’Sullivan halted what he was doing and directed a death stare in the direction of the noise that the onlookers were making. The Eurosport pundit said, “Ronnie seems distracted by something in the crowd.”
The crowd was then compelled to intervene, and the referee asked, “Can you sit still?”Would you please?” O’Sullivan was all praise for the “amazing” crowd and the entire concert, even with this small diversion.
“It’s been an amazing competition, an excellent location,” O’Sullivan remarked upon hoisting the title. “The turnout has been incredible. Our visit to the Middle East was a long time ago. We’ve had such wonderful treatment.
The players have found it enjoyable. This place offers amazing culture and wonderful hospitality. These are the competitions that you truly wish to participate in. Many people at one table. There was music playing in between the shots.
“It was as though we were at a rave. Like going back in time to when I was younger by 25 years. It is now more animated as a result. It has the vibe of a really pleasant festival. All are eager to visit Saudi Arabia.”
Following his victory, he shared a social media message saying, “What a night!!” I’d want to express my gratitude to @Turki_alalshikh, the event organizers, @RiyadhSeason, and all of the fans for their incredible love and support. Shukran.
Reiterating O’Sullivan’s remarks, defeated finalist Brecel said, “I’ve enjoyed these last few days.” The location is wonderful. It’s been an amazing audience.
I have had the impression that Saudis are incredibly kind people ever since I arrived. I’m appreciative that I can play here. I hope it stays in this place for a very long time.”
Judd Trump was also positive, saying that the mood created by the audience in Riyadh was superior to other tournaments held in the United Kingdom.
