Duke basketball team 2025–2026: Tyrese Proctor declares for the NBA Draft, and Cooper Flagg’s NBA choice looms

One of the key offseason decisions Duke was closely watching has now been settled — sophomore guard Caleb Foster is staying in Durham.

The former four-star recruit from the 2023 class began the 2024-25 season as a starter but eventually lost his starting role to Sion James. Despite that, Foster announced on Thursday that he’ll return for the 2025-26 campaign, providing some continuity for the Blue Devils heading into a pivotal year.

His return comes in the wake of some major roster turnover. Freshman standout Kon Knueppel recently declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, becoming the first Duke player to do so this offseason. Soon after, junior guard Tyrese Proctor followed suit and also declared.

While Duke hasn’t made any official moves in the transfer portal just yet, changes are expected soon. The focus now shifts to Cooper Flagg and Khaman Maluach, who are both expected to declare for the NBA Draft before the April 26 deadline. Flagg remains the projected No. 1 overall pick.

As Jon Scheyer enters his fourth season at the helm, he faces another major roster reshuffle. With James out of eligibility and stars like Flagg, Knueppel, Maluach, and Proctor likely gone, Duke could be heading toward another full-scale lineup revamp.
