Duke Basketball Emerging as Favorite for Rising Four-Star Braydon Hawthorne

The Duke basketball staff appears to be in a strong position to land four-star forward Braydon Hawthorne as they continue to round out Jon Scheyer’s fourth roster in Durham.

Duke began showing interest in the 6-foot-8, 190-pound prospect a few weeks ago, making a visit to see him at Huntington Prep (W.Va.). Hawthorne then made his way to campus for an official visit starting on Friday.

Not only do the Blue Devils seem to be leading in his recruitment, but Hawthorne’s profile is quickly gaining momentum. While he currently ranks No. 105 in the 247Sports 2025 Composite—a massive 142-spot jump since December—he’s ranked No. 71 overall by 247Sports individually. On3 is even higher on him, placing him at No. 35 nationally, up 13 spots since March, making him the third-highest-ranked uncommitted player in the class.

Hawthorne originally committed to West Virginia but decommitted in late March. Since then, he’s taken visits to Pitt, Kentucky, and Virginia Tech in addition to Duke.

The Blue Devils already boast a loaded 2025 recruiting class, headlined by five-stars Nikolas Khamenia (Harvard-Westlake, CA) and the Boozer twins—Cameron and Cayden—from Columbus High School in Florida. They’re expected to join a solid core of returning talent and possibly a few key transfers as Duke retools for another run.
