Whenever the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott have bumped into major injury obstacles over the last few seasons, Cooper Rush has often stepped in as the “elite bus driver.”
But now he’s stepping out. And he is understandable emotional about it.
Rush has signed with the Baltimore Ravens, taking on that same backup role behind two-time league MVP Lamar Jackson.
Prescott had a short yet heartfelt message for Rush that he posted on his Instagram story following the news: “Thank you brother,” he wrote. … one of the many Cowboys who offered Rush a virtual hug as he moves on with a new two-year contract worth up to $12.2 million.
And now, as Dallas looks to replace Rush on the cheap (Will Grier? An NFL Draft pick of someone like Texas’ Quinn Ewers?) … It’s Rush’s turn to say his piece.

“From an undrafted rookie wearing #7 to an eight year veteran wearing #10, I appreciated every moment in a Cowboys uniform,” Rush posted to his Instagram page. “Thank you Dallas for all of the love that you showed to me and family. I’m excited for the next chapter but forever grateful for the first one.”
Rush was 9-5 as a starter when filling in for Dak, success that includes a 4-1 mark back in 2022 that helped keep the Cowboys’ playoff push going.
He said the offer to move to Baltimore was a bit of a stunner to him.
“It kind of came out of nowhere, and I was super-excited when my agent said the Ravens called,” he said. “Obviously, from afar there in Dallas, you see the Ravens are a well-run, good organization. Obviously, tons of success, especially recently. So, I was like, wow, OK, this is sweet.
“It materialized, and here we are.”
Rush said something else that could be misconstrued, so we want to help him get thia right.
“It’s really exciting to be on a good team,” Rush said of signing with the powerhouse Ravens.
Is that a dig at Dallas? Nah.
He added: “We had some good teams down there in Dallas, so … You can play within yourself, do your job, rely on your teammates, and I think you have a similar situation here. Really good offense. Just kind of go do your job, get the ball to the fast guys, let them work, and do whatever you need to do to go win.”
