Rémi Cavagna’s horrible spell with Movistar Team has come to an end after less than a year of association. Groupama – FDJ has officially announced the signing of the time trial specialist for the 2025 season, who initially had a contract with the Spanish team until 2026.
Cavagna came to the team to bring good results in the time trials. But the Frenchman’s 2024 has been a nightmare. The rider failed to finish even once in the top 10 in all the time trials he competed in, which led to him not being selected for the World Championships in France. He has been open about the struggles in communication with the team and the lack of a good relationship, and how that then affected his performance.
This led to a mutual agreement between him and the team to end the contract prematurely so he could seek a contract elsewhere. Now, in the team of his country, he will seek redemption.
Remi Cavagna wants to return to the Grand Tours
Before his move to Groupama – FDJ was confirmed, in his last statements as a Movistar Team rider during the Tour de Guangxi, Cavagna said that next year he hoped to ride “the Giro d’Italia or the Tour de France. It’s very important for the legs and for the condition to do so.”
He also mentioned that there was no hard feelings with the Spanish team, nor that he was too affected by having been at such a low level: “I’m sure I’ll find a good way. This didn’t go well. When the head is not here, the legs are not here either. There’s no problem. I spoke with Eusebio (Unzué, team manager, ed.) and with everyone. It’s not a problem. I tried once in Spain, but it didn’t work out. That’s life, isn’t it?”
“I know that if I do one more year, I can’t do well in the future. I prefer to change. For next year I hope to have luck and also good rankings, to get points with the new team,” added a Cavagna who can already mention Groupama – FDJ as that new team.
