Nizaar Kinsella’s report a few days ago on Chelsea’s situation for the rest of the transfer window was largely as we expected. It listed the players who are likely to arrive, and those who are likely to leave.
One surprising part of it was the inclusion of three players on the potential departures list who we would otherwise be sure were staying. Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher and Carney Chukwuemeka all played an important role in preseason, and all played in our opening game of the season against Liverpool – with the latter two even starting.
It seems mad that Chelsea would want to sell them, and unlikely they would want to leave given they’re clearly in line for some minutes this season despite ever increasing competition from new signings.
So it’s no surprise to see Kinsella’s updated report today claiming that the three of them are “willing to fight for their places” rather than be loaned out or sold. All three have an uphill battle for minutes against expensive imports, but all of them have already shown they have the quality to win those battles
