Mykhaylo Mudryk has not started a Premier League match under Mauricio Pochettino.
Chelsea have been tipped to make a ‘surprise move’ late in the transfer window and allow Mykhaylo Mudryk to leave the club. The forward joined the club in January but has struggled to justify his £88.5million price tag to date, leaving some questioning whether he will ever meet his potential at Stamford Bridge.
Given that numerous stars have struggled since joining Chelsea over the last 18 months, Mudryk may not have been provided with the correct environment for him to flourish and thus will need time to settle in England before showing his potential.
But former Chelsea forward Pat Nevin believes that there is every chance that Chelsea cut their losses on Mudryk and offload him before the summer transfer window closes given that he has not started a league match this season.
He explained: “Mudryk has not been given game-time this season. He is a very good player and Arsenal were desperate for him and it didn’t work for him last season, but who did it work for last season at Chelse.
It depends what Pochettino thinks. They have spent huge money on a player who hasn’t come good yet. There might be a big surprise move in and out, and it could be Mudryk.
But I would be saddened as I think he’s a good player and he needs to be in a team that suits him. A winning and attacking team, not a team lacking in confidence all over the pitch.”
Arsenal pushed to sign Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk before Chelsea hijacked the move, and Mikel Arteta’s side will feel someone relieved to see the Ukraine international struggling in the Premier League. However, Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino explained previously that he believes it is only a matter of time before the 22-year-old bounced back to form.
We need to also build that trust with him and he needs to build it with us as part of the team, as is the same with many of our younger players.
It will take a little time but there is no doubting he has enormous talent and quality and it’s only a matter of time before he settles into the team on a regular basis.”
