Romelu Lukaku’s situation at Chelsea has been described as reaching ‘breaking point’ as he continues to search for a new club after being exiled by Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino. The Belgian striker has been training with the club’s Under-21 team having been deemed surplus to requirements, though does not appear to be any closer to an exit.
The 30-year-old spent last season back on loan at Inter Milan where he helped the Italian side reach the Champions League final but they have not taken up the opportunity to buy him outright. Juventus had also shown an interest but are only prepared to sanction a move if they can offload Dusan Vlahovic, according to The Telegraph.
This has left Lukaku in limbo, with the striker not even speaking to Pochettino since reiterating his desire to leave Chelsea. The Blues do not want him to spend another season out on loan, while the former Manchester United man has also turned down interest from Saudi Arabia – but ex-Chelsea winger Florent Malouda believes that Tottenham and West Ham can rescue Lukaku.
“Unfortunately it has reached breaking point for Lukaku at Chelsea,” Malouda told Betway. “It’s not about football, it seems to be about feelings and it’s sad to see because I know he is a big Chelsea fan but the club is on another path.
Lukaku still could reach his prime in European football but he’s a sensitive person. I don’t think Man Utd would be a good idea. Tottenham would be a good option though as it may suit him to go to a London club. Spurs could be a solution but West Ham could be a good idea as well.
“I hope at one point his hunger to play games will help him make the right choice to be happy on the pitch. It’s sad, people are unhappy because they see him unhappy on the pitch.”
