English Premier League club Chelsea are close to signing New England Revolution goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. It had been reported that Manchester United were hopeful of bringing in the MLS keeper, but Chelsea has now agreed terms with the Revolution on a £14 million move – where he could compete with their No. 1 Robert Sanchez £14
Manchester United have already signed one goalkeeper in Andre Onana from Inter Milan, spending around £50 million to bring him in, but they had hoped to sign Petrovic as his backup while providing competition for the spot.
Instead, Petrovic is set to join Chelsea on a seven-year deal, multiple reports have suggested – with the 23-year-old long wanting the move away from MLS to the EPL.
According to The Athletic, a deal has been agreed between Chelsea and New England for Petrovic’s move. It has been reported that an agreement of just over £14 million has been reached between the two clubs – with the keeper also agreeing on personal term
Widely recognized as one of MLS’ best young talent in the last few years, Petrovic had reportedly made it clear that he’d like to play in a top European league should interest arise.
Petrovic was named the MLS second-best Goalkeeper of the Year after his incredible 2022 season in New England.
Nottingham Forest had reportedly been in on Petrovic before they turned to USMNT star Matt Turner, who joined from asernal
Chelsea has lost both of their goalkeepers from last season, moving on from Eduord Mendy who lost his place after poor performances – moving to Saudi Arabia.
