Chelsea make first move to sign ‘fast’ 21-year-old attacker who amazed Kevin De Bruyne

Chelsea have now made their first move to sign Rennes attacker Jeremy Doku.

That is according to a report from 90min.

They claim that Chelsea have now reached out to Ligue 1 club Rennes and made an enquiry about Jeremy Doku.

It is understood that the Blues are now turning towards alternatives after transfer target Michael Olise decided to sign a new contract with Crystal Palace.

The report explains that Mauricio Pochettino’s side have joined Premier League champions Manchester City in the race to sign Doku.

Doku, who’s only 21, is a very exciting youngster in the French league.

The Belgian right-winger has incredible speed and trickery, making him a very enjoyable player to watch.

He’s already kickstarted the new league campaign with a goal for Rennes in their opening day 5-1 thrashing of Metz.

Will he still be playing his football in Ligue 1 come the end of the summer window, though?

Speaking after Belgium beat Iceland in September 2020, Kevin De Bruyne showered international teammate Doku with big praise.

De Bruyne told Reuters: “He is nimble, fast and can dribble. He is a diamond in the rough.”

Eden Hazard’s wonderful career at Chelsea means the Blues supporters are always going to have a soft spot for Belgian forward. We’re not convinced Doku is the right profile the club needs right now, though.

It would be great for Mauricio Pochettino to bring in one more attacker with a proven track record of regularly scoring 10-plus goals a season.
