Chelsea have given an update on the fitness of their squad ahead of travelling to Manchester United on Wednesday night in a huge Premier League clash. The Blues are coming off the back of an impressive hard-fought 3-2 win over Brighton on Sunday whereas their opponents have been blooded after a poor showing away to Newcastle.
United themselves have a host of injury issues, though it doesn’t hold a candle to that of the Magpies’ plight from Saturday, but have the small advantage of playing a day earlier and also hosting this fixture. However, with pressure seriously mounting on Erik ten Hag there is a chance for Mauricio Pochettino to record another positive result against a top four/five challenger.
Chelsea have already gone undefeated against the top three this season – drawing with Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal – as well as beating fifth place Tottenham and Brighton in eighth. Despite this they start the game five points behind a consistently in-crisis United team on the brink of European disaster.
Luckily for Mauricio Pochettino he will be able to welcome back club captain Reece James after he served a one match suspension for a red card against Newcastle. Marc Cucurella is also available following his yellow card that took him to the five booking threshold for the season already.
