Carney Chukwuemeka is now expected to make a return at the start of October after Mauricio Pochettino put the Chelsea No.17 on a special fitness plan.
That is according to the Evening Standard.
So, what is the latest on Carney Chukwuemeka? Let’s take a look
What’s the story?
Well, the England Under-21 international had just kickstarted his 2023/24 campaign with an excellent goal in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham before injury struck
Chelsea’s official website confirmed that Chukwuemeka had damaged his left knee, and underwent surgery to fix the problem.
Now, there has been an update on the 19-year-old.
The Evening Standard believe Chukwuemeka is expected to make a return either against Fulham on Monday 2nd October, or against Burnley on Saturday 7th October.
Chelsea have told the Evening Standard that the teenager remains in the early stages of his recovery, but if all goes to plan with the six-week fitness schedule Pochettino put the attacker on, then early October is when he should return.
Chukwuemeka injury came at a terrible time as Chelsea strengthen
There aren’t really any good times to pick up a fitness problem, but Chukwuemeka suffered his injury at a seriously unfortunate time.
The teenager had just scored his first goal for Chelsea and seemed ready to kick on under Pochettino, after a difficult debut campaign last season. Throughout the entirely of last term, the Austria-born wonderkid only made two Premier League starts.
Now – however – in the time Chukwuemeka has been absent, Chelsea have signed another attacker in Cole Palmer, adding even more competition for places. Results also aren’t that promising, so the formation which seemed to suit him could be changed too.
Hopefully, Chukwuemeka is not feeling a tinge of FOMO as his teammates attempt to impress Pochettino while he recovers from injury, and his rehabilitation goes exactly to plan.
