Chelsea agree personal terms with £30m attacker but bid falls short by £6m

Chelsea are looking to sign another striker after acquiring Nicolas Jackson and have already made a move to sign Montpellier striker Elye Wahi. The Frenchman is also rumoured to be a target for other sides across Europe but CFC are pushing to sign the 20 year old this summer.

Chelsea have managed to offload Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with the Gabon international moving to Marseille. The Blues also want to offload Romelu Lukaku as soon as possible with Juventus keen on the Belgian striker. Chelsea’s third striker, Armando Broja, is admired by Premier League sides but the Albanian wants to fight for his place under Mauricio Pochettino and is likely to stay at the club.

However, the stance could change if CFC sign another striker, especially a big name striker. The Blues have been linked with Lautaro Martinez, Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic but no concrete efforts have been made by the West London outfit to sign any of the aforementioned targets.

Chelsea see their bid rejected for Elye Wahi

Montpellier striker Wahi has emerged as a suitable target for CFC. The Blues admire the 20 year old and are impressed with performances in the Ligue 1 last season. Wahi netted 19 goals in 33 Ligue 1 games and also provided six assists. Wahi has been intrigued by the idea of playing for Chelsea and is keen on the move.

According to The Times, Wahi has agreed to personal terms with CFC and the Blues have already made a bid. As per French media outlet L’Equipe, Montpellier have rejected a £24 million bid for Wahi, however, the Ligue 1 outfit remains open to negotiations with Chelsea with Montpellier wanting £30 million for the France U21 star.

Atletico Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt have also been admirers of Wahi but it seems that Chelsea are leading the race at the moment. The 20 year old wants to move to England but there are chances that Wahi would be loaned out for the 2023-24 season to Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club, which BlueCo acquired earlier this summer.

Chelsea will need to quickly raise their offer as interest remains high in Wahi. If Broja is sent out on loan, CFC may keep Wahi at Stamford Bridge but playing opportunities will be limited for the 20 year old. Whereas at Strasbourg, Wahi will be a starter and gain immense experience playing week in and week out.
