Champions Weekend Returns: ‘TBT’ Gears Up for a July Showdown of Legends and Legacy

Lexington Gears Up for a Summer of Legacy and Impact as “Champions Weekend” Returns with TBT and La Familia

LEXINGTON, KY – Basketball, community, and legacy will once again collide in the heart of Kentucky this summer as Champions Weekend makes its much-anticipated return from Friday, July 11th to Sunday, July 13th, 2025. Backed by The Basketball Tournament (TBT) and La Familia — the powerhouse squad made up of former University of Kentucky basketball stars — this isn’t just about thrilling exhibition games. It’s a celebration of purpose, unity, and giving back.

Following the resounding success of Champions Weekend 2024, organizers have doubled down to deliver a richer, more impactful experience this year. The 2025 edition promises to fuse athletic nostalgia with real-time impact, empowering local youth, supporting vital non-profits, and celebrating the community that helped shape these Wildcats legends.

“Everyone from the community who attended, including the athletes, had such a great time interacting,” said Twany Beckham, General Manager of La Familia. “We were so thrilled to have impacted so many lives. Life is all about who you can help.”

That mission lies at the heart of Champions Weekend. With support from Coca-Cola Consolidated and Better Lifestyle Events, and in partnership with community-focused organizations like the AONE Allstars Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bluegrass, Delta Foundation, and the Police Activities League, this isn’t just an event series — it’s a movement.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to serve the Lexington community and to make a positive impact alongside our teammates and partners,” said Morris Howard, Director of Community Relations at Coca-Cola Consolidated.

4. Champions Charity Game – When Legends Return
Saturday, July 12 | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM | Tates Creek High School Gymnasium
The marquee event of the weekend. Basketball fans will flock to watch beloved former Kentucky stars light up the hardwood in a spirited charity game. Expect high-flying action, nostalgia-filled moments, and a crowd unified in passion. Tickets are $15 — affordable, accessible, and unforgettable.

5. Champions Golf Scramble – Swing for a Cause
Sunday, July 13 | 8:30 AM | University Club of Kentucky
The weekend wraps with a golf scramble offering 18 teams of 4 a chance to compete, connect, and converse with celebrity guests and athletes. It’s a relaxed, rewarding close to a weekend filled with energy and engagement. Entry is $100 per person.

More Than a Game: TBT and the Return of La Familia

For basketball fans, The Basketball Tournament offers high-stakes drama every summer, with a $1 million prize and some of the game’s most storied alumni going head-to-head. Lexington plays host once again to La Familia — a roster loaded with UK alumni talent. But for these players, the return is about more than just winning games. It’s about returning home, giving back, and rewriting the legacy of what it means to be a champion.

Whether it’s signing autographs for a wide-eyed 9-year-old, donating time and money to a local nonprofit, or simply listening to a community’s story — these former Wildcats understand their place in the hearts of Lexington’s people. And through Champions Weekend, they’re making sure that connection stays alive and thriving.
