For the first time in several weeks, the Celtics will play the Bulls on Thursday night after their return from the All-Star Break with a completely healthy lineup. After missing the last two weeks due to a right ankle impingement, the team announced on Thursday afternoon that Jaden Springer, a recent trade addition, had been taken off the injury report.
Following Xavier Tillman’s clearance to play for the first time with Boston following a few weeks of dealing with left knee pain, comes the removal of Springer.Joe Mazzulla of the Celtics will have a rested and adaptable squad to choose from for the away game in Chicago if both players are available.
Boston is on a six-game winning streak and has a league-best 43-12 record as they return from the break. Tillman was acquired from the Grizzlies for two second-round choices and Lamar Stevens, and is anticipated to provide big man depth for Boston. Two weeks ago, just before the trade deadline, Springer was added for a second-round selection. At barely 21 years old, he is anticipated to be more of a developing project for Boston after being acquired from the 76ers in an unexpected trade between playoff rivals.
Earlier this month, Brad Stevens, the team president of basketball operations, gave a speech regarding the trade and Springer.
We’ve kept a careful eye on his progress throughout the years, according to Stevens. A few years ago, we liked him when he was selected. In that draft, he was the youngest player. He is still a young dog. He is yet twenty-one. In the previous year’s G-League playoffs, he was amazing. He’s done more nice deeds against us while residing in Maine. Up there, we’ve seen him in person multiple times. We have been following this person for a while.
Thursday night at the United Center, the Celtics and Springer take on the Bulls at 8 p.m. ET.
