Cedric Maxwell selects two players he believes were superior to Jordan on YouTube.
The career of Cedric “Cornbread” Maxwell was intriguing. He hails from Kinston, where he was among the first NBA players to come out. In 1977, he led UNCC to the Final Four, which was considered a near-miraculous feat at the time.
At number twelve in the 1977 NBA Draft, he was selected by the Boston Celtics, who used him to usher in the Larry Bird era for the team.
Maxwell was dealt for Bill Walton, who temporarily brought his career back with the Celtics before injuries put an end to it permanently, to the L.A. Clippers, an NBA death sentence at the time and a true Siberian gulag.
Maxwell transitioned into the media after retirement, working initially with the Celtics radio team and then on podcasts.
In this video, Maxwell discusses a variety of topics before outlining his reasoning for believing that Michael Jordan was inferior to both Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Hakeem Olajuwon. Though obviously extremely different players, they were both centers. You may argue for either, but before you do anything else, watch this video of a young Kareem. He was an outstanding athlete.
