Blue Angels Announce Commanding Officer for 2025-2026 Show Seasons
In a momentous announcement, the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, popularly known as the Blue Angels, has named Commander John “Bullet” Hamilton as the new Commanding Officer and Flight Leader for the 2025-2026 show seasons. This prestigious role, often referred to as the “Boss,” is a testament to a pilot’s exceptional skill, leadership, and dedication to the Navy’s aviation mission.
Commander Hamilton, a native of Pensacola, Florida, home to the Blue Angels’ base, brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the squadron. He joined the Navy in 2006, graduating from the United States Naval Academy with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. Over his distinguished career, Hamilton has accumulated over 4,000 flight hours and 500 carrier-arrested landings, demonstrating his expertise and commitment to naval aviation.
Prior to his appointment, Hamilton served as the Executive Officer of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 147, known as the “Argonauts,” flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet. His operational experience includes multiple deployments in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve. Hamilton has also served as an instructor at the Navy Fighter Weapons School, popularly known as TOPGUN, where he honed the skills of the Navy’s elite aviators.
“I’m deeply honored and excited to take on this incredible responsibility,” said Commander Hamilton. “The Blue Angels represent the pinnacle of naval aviation, and it’s a privilege to lead such an esteemed team. I look forward to continuing the legacy of excellence and inspiring the next generation of aviators.”
The selection process for the Blue Angels’ Commanding Officer is highly competitive, involving rigorous evaluation by a selection panel comprised of senior naval aviators and former Blue Angels officers. Candidates are chosen based on their operational performance, leadership qualities, and ability to serve as ambassadors for the Navy and Marine Corps.
Hamilton’s appointment comes at a significant time as the Blue Angels continue to transition to the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, replacing the legacy F/A-18C/D Hornets. This modernization effort ensures the team remains at the forefront of naval aviation capabilities while continuing to perform their breathtaking aerial maneuvers at air shows across the country.
The Blue Angels, established in 1946, are renowned for their precision flying and are a symbol of the Navy and Marine Corps’ aviation excellence. Each year, millions of spectators attend their air shows, which serve as a tool for recruiting, community outreach, and demonstrating the capabilities of naval aviation.
As the new “Boss,” Commander Hamilton will lead the team through a rigorous training schedule at the Blue Angels’ winter training facility in El Centro, California, before embarking on the 2025 show season. His leadership is expected to uphold the high standards and traditions of the Blue Angels, inspiring awe and pride in audiences nationwide.
With Commander Hamilton at the helm, the Blue Angels are poised to continue their storied tradition of showcasing the skill, precision, and professionalism of the United States Navy and Marine Corps aviators. The 2025-2026 seasons promise to be an exciting chapter in the Blue Angels’ illustrious history.
