BBC PUNDIT CAN’T BELIEVE ENGLAND SNUB FOR £325,000-A-WEEK CHELSEA STAR

BBC Sport pundit Ashley Williams has said that he cannot believe that Chelsea star Raheem Sterling is not in the latest England squad.

The former Everton and Wales international defender has said on BBC Sport that England head coach Gareth Southgate should have included Chelsea ace Raheem Sterling in his squad for matches against Ukraine and Scotland.

BBC Sport pundit Ashley Williams on England snub for Chelsea star Raheem Sterling

Williams has noted that Sterling, who can operate as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, has been playing well for Chelsea this season.

The BBC Sport pundit has added that Sterling is a player who has done well for England and can be trusted to deliver for the Three Lions.

William said: “I am gobsmacked Raheem Sterling isn’t in the squad.

“I look at it and think does an international manager go with players he trusts or go with players that are in form.

Raheem Sterling fits both those categories.

“He has picked players who aren’t in form and I’m not sure what he is basing that on.

“You have to trust him but if you are Raheem Sterling, you are very disappointed.”

Chelsea the big winners from Raheem Sterling omission

In our view, Chelsea are the big winners from England head coach Gareth Southgate’s decision not to include Raheem Sterling in the latest squad.

This means that Sterling can continue to train at Chelsea and work with head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

The £325,000-a-week (Spotrac) former Manchester City star would not get injured on international duty.

Chelsea have enough injury concerns at the moment.

They do not need another player to be forced out on the sidelines.

Sterling has scored two goals in four Premier League matches for Chelsea so far this season.
