Conor Gallagher’s future has drawn a lot of speculation already in January and Mauricio Pochettino has discussed as much with his midfielder in addition to transfer talks with the club’s hierarchy
Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that he has held conversations with some of his Chelsea squad over their futures. The Blues boss has been coy over the business that the Blues could complete this month and has also been in meeting with the club’s owners and sporting directors in recent days.
The west London side’s January transfer window is expected to be quieter than list winter and the summer but with the club still monitoring options and opportunities. The club hold an interest in possibly strengthening in defence and attack but are still assessing what the squad offers with Pochettino’s group being ravaged by injury this term.
No definitive answer has been made on Conor Gallagher in those discussions, however. The Cobham product has 18 months remaining on his deal and has seen his future come under increasing scrutiny.
Chelsea rejected bids in the summer for the 23-year-old, but Gallagher was available for the right price with teams such as Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham interested. A similar position appears to have been taken this month, though Gallagher is content at the club having been one of the star’s of the west London side’s season under Pochettino.
with a move to Borussia Dortmund, while a decision is made on whether Andrey Santos will spend the rest of the season after being recalled from his loan at Nottingham Forest. Pochettino believes it has been important to communicate with each of the trio.
Pochettino said: “No, no, no. We [Pochettino, the owners and sporting directors] talked about many, many subjects because it’s normal. But it’s a very natural situation that, of course, we talk in a very natural way. If you want to ask me if I was talking with Conor about this situation, yes.
