An unexpected NBA Draft choice is made by a former five-star Duke freshman.

Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils are coming off a Final Four appearance, fueled by a standout freshman class.

That group included elite recruits like Cooper Flagg, Khaman Maluach, Patrick Ngongba, Kon Knueppel, and Isaiah Evans—each playing varying roles in their debut season.

As anticipated, Flagg, Knueppel, and Maluach—all key starters—have declared for the 2025 NBA Draft.

Ngongba, meanwhile, confirmed he will return for his sophomore season at Duke.

Evans had previously indicated he would come back as well, but according to Ryan Lommen and NBA Communications, he has now entered his name into the draft as an early entrant.

Lommen suggested that Evans is likely testing the draft process before deciding whether to return for another year in college. He is among 106 early entry candidates.

Evans had a limited role in his freshman campaign, averaging 13.7 minutes across 36 games with just three starts. He posted averages of 6.8 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game.

Coming out of high school, Evans was a highly touted five-star recruit, ranked as the No. 4 small forward and the No. 15 overall player in the 247Sports rankings.
