An unanticipated NBA Draft decision-making is made by a former five-star Duke freshman.

Jon Scheyer and the Duke Blue Devils are coming off a Final Four appearance, powered by a stellar freshman class. Among the top recruits were Cooper Flagg, Khaman Maluach, Patrick Ngongba, Kon Knueppel, and Isaiah Evans.

Each freshman contributed in different ways during their first year in Durham. As expected, Flagg, Maluach, and Knueppel—who all started for Duke—have declared for the 2025 NBA Draft.

Ngongba announced he’ll return for his sophomore season, while Evans, who had also initially planned to return, has since entered his name as an early draft candidate, per Ryan Lommen and NBA Communications. According to Lommen, Evans appears to be testing the NBA Draft process before deciding whether to stay in the draft or come back to Duke. He is among 105 early entrants.

Evans played a limited role in his freshman campaign, averaging 13.7 minutes, 6.8 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 0.5 assists across 36 games, including three starts. A former five-star recruit, Evans was ranked the No. 4 small forward and No. 15 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.
