Former Kansas and Alabama guard Rylan Griffen is set to visit Kentucky next week, per a report from On3’s Joe Tipton
The 6-foot-5 junior re-entered the transfer portal after a single season at Kansas. Prior to that, he played two years at Alabama, where he appeared in 73 games and made 33 starts for the Crimson Tide between 2022 and 2024. While he started 20 games for the Jayhawks during the 2024–25 campaign, Griffen’s role was reduced compared to his time in Tuscaloosa.
His playing time dipped from 26.3 minutes per game to 20.2, and his scoring average dropped from 11.2 points to 6.3. After shooting an impressive 39.2% from beyond the arc in his final season at Alabama, Griffen connected on just 33.6% of his three-point attempts at Kansas. He struggled to find a rhythm in Lawrence, though he wasn’t alone in that, as the Jayhawks suffered 13 losses — their worst season since 1982–83.
Kentucky head coach Mark Pope has major holes to fill in his roster heading into his first full season and has been aggressive in the transfer portal. The Wildcats have already secured commitments from four transfers: Pitt guard Jaland Lowe, Tulane wing Kam Williams, Alabama forward Mouhamed Dioubate, and Arizona State big man Jayden Quaintance. They’re also welcoming two five-star freshmen: guard Jasper Johnson and center Malachi Moreno.
Thanks to those additions, Kentucky currently boasts the third-ranked transfer class in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite.
