Former Kansas and Alabama guard Rylan Griffen is scheduled to visit Kentucky next week, per a report from On3’s Joe Tipton.
The 6-foot-5 junior re-entered the transfer portal after spending the 2024-25 season with the Jayhawks. Griffen began his college career at Alabama, where he played in 73 games and made 33 starts between 2022 and 2024. While he started 20 games for Kansas this past season, his role was reduced compared to his time in Tuscaloosa.
Griffen’s playing time dipped from 26.3 minutes to 20.2 minutes per game, and his scoring average dropped from 11.2 to 6.3 points per contest. He also struggled from beyond the arc, hitting 33.6% of his threes after shooting nearly 40% in his final season at Alabama. Griffen wasn’t alone in his struggles—Kansas endured a tough year, suffering 13 losses, the program’s most in a season since 1982-83.
Meanwhile, new Kentucky head coach Mark Pope is looking to rebuild his roster and has been aggressive in the transfer portal. So far, the Wildcats have landed four transfers: Pitt guard Jaland Lowe, Tulane wing Kam Williams, Alabama forward Mouhamed Dioubate, and Arizona State big man Jayden Quaintance. Pope has also secured commitments from two 5-star freshmen—combo guard Jasper Johnson and center Malachi Moreno.
According to the 247Sports Composite, Kentucky currently boasts the No. 3 transfer class in the nation.
