UNC Basketball Lands Veteran Guard from Virginia Tech
North Carolina has added another experienced piece to its roster, securing a commitment from Virginia Tech transfer Jaydon Young, who made significant strides in his sophomore season.
Young, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound native of Goldsboro, N.C., is officially joining the Tar Heels. He brings with him valuable ACC experience after two seasons with the Hokies.
A former three-star prospect from Greensboro Day School in the Class of 2023, Young had a limited role as a freshman, averaging 1.8 points in 8.5 minutes across 26 games. He made a noticeable jump in his second year, appearing in all 32 games with 10 starts. He averaged 8.1 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, though his shooting percentages—34.7% from the field and 29.6% from three—left room for improvement. Virginia Tech finished the year with a 13-19 record.

According to 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings, Young is currently listed at No. 354 overall and No. 84 among shooting guards.
With his addition, UNC’s 2025 transfer class has grown to five members and now ranks No. 16 nationally and No. 2 in the ACC, behind only Louisville.
