“A New Chapter Begins: The Dyer Family’s Memorable First Meeting with Coach Mark Pope”

Faith, Family, and a Weekend to Remember: How a Trip to Lexington Became a Life-Changing Moment for the Dyers

Every summer, Kentucky basketball’s father-son camp brings together families from all corners of the country, united by a shared love for the game and the unique chance to bond through it. But for one father and son who made the trip from Atlanta, the experience became something far more meaningful than a few drills and photo ops—it became a moment of deep connection, purpose, and inspiration.

Ryan and Bryce Dyer arrived in Lexington for what they expected to be a fun weekend of basketball and bonding. What unfolded, however, was a series of powerful experiences that they say they’ll carry with them for a lifetime.

During a brief pause in the action, 9-year-old Bryce shared a reflection that stopped people in their tracks. “Always have a good attitude,” he said with a smile. “God made me for a reason.” Those few words captured the spirit of the entire weekend.

The Dyers’ story took an even more profound turn when they had the opportunity to sit down with Kentucky men’s basketball head coach Mark Pope. Over lunch, the trio recorded an episode of the Dyers’ podcast, Worth It—a show focused on resilience, faith, and finding strength in life’s challenges.

According to Ryan, the episode is set to release in the next two weeks and will showcase a candid conversation with Coach Pope about what it means to lead with purpose, support each other through adversity, and never lose sight of the bigger picture—on or off the court.

For the Dyers, basketball was just the starting point. This trip served as a powerful reminder that the most meaningful moments often come when we least expect them—during a conversation, a shared meal, or even a simple affirmation from a child wise beyond his years.

Their journey touched everyone around them, from fellow campers to the Kentucky staff and even local media. “Faith, family, and basketball,” reporter Hannah Hamelback tweeted. “A really special story you won’t want to miss.”

Tune in to hear more of the Dyers’ incredible journey—and why their weekend in Lexington was about far more than just basketball. Watch the full feature tonight at 7:30 p.m. on BBN Tonight on @LEX18News.

For Ryan and Bryce, this weekend wasn’t just fun—it was a milestone. A reminder of resilience, love, and the profound impact a shared experience can have. In every way that mattered, this trip was more than worth it.

“UNC SHOCKER: Ian Jackson Reveals the Real Reason He Walked Away from Chapel Hill!”

Five-star standout Ian Jackson has officially moved on from the UNC basketball program after a turbulent freshman year that didn’t quite meet expectations

When the electrifying guard from New York committed to Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels more than two years ago, most believed he’d be a one-and-done — just not like this. Rather than heading to the NBA Draft, Jackson surprised many by entering the transfer portal in early April. He has since committed to St. John’s, joining Rick Pitino’s squad.

The transfer raised eyebrows across Tar Heel Nation, but this week, Jackson gave fans some insight into his decision during an episode of his podcast, The Captain Jack Show.

“Carolina just didn’t feel like the right fit for me,” Jackson explained. “There were things I wanted to show on the court that I didn’t get the chance to.”

Despite his departure, Jackson had nothing but love for his Chapel Hill experience.
“I’m really gonna miss it, man,” he said. “Carolina was amazing — the school, the fans, the atmosphere. It was lit.”

Ultimately, it seems Jackson felt his game couldn’t fully thrive in UNC’s system — prompting a fresh start with the Red Storm and a new chapter in his promising career.
