After Adrian Griffin was fired as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks despite a 30-13 record, Doc Rivers, the former head coach of the Boston Celtics, acknowledged on SirusXM NBA Radio that he wasn’t prepared for the role this season.
“To be honest, when our owners called, I told them, ‘I don’t understand why you’re doing this,'” admitted Rivers (via MassLive). “They stated, among other things, that it is irrelevant. We’ve completed it now. You are wanted by us. That one was difficult, then. That’s why you hesitated there.
Fans of the Bucks will not be pleased with that statement. Rivers doesn’t seem very happy about his current situation, and his performance (3–7) so far supports that. Adding serial winner (but never of the big one) Pat Beverley and signing away Danilo Gallinari, who may have resentment toward the Celtics for trading him before ever seeing him play a minute on the floor, were two ways Milwaukee attempted to position themselves as a contender around the trade deadline. — but if Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo can’t get it together, it’s all for nothing.
JJ Redick rips former Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers
Before making these remarks, JJ Redick attacked Rivers, saying he makes up reasons every season why his teams don’t win the championship anymore.
Redick stated, “I’ve seen the trend, I’ve seen the trend for years” (c/t The New York Post). “Excuses are being made more and more often. We understand, Doc. It’s challenging to take over a squad in the middle of the season. We understand that it’s difficult for a player to be traded in the middle of the season.
“There’s always an explanation. It’s always putting your group on the back burner. Oh, it’s his players fault, they say after losing to Memphis. Memphis was facing both two-way and G League opponents.
After releasing some statements over the weekend, he now wants to claim responsibility for the successful James Harden deal to the Clippers. Does he want to take credit for that? With that individual, there’s never accountability.
Redick has caused more harm than good, yet Beverley retaliated in defense of his coach. He insulted his former Los Angeles Clippers coach to the point of no return when he appeared on the ESPN program for which he currently serves as a commentator.
