Chelsea transfer news as the Blues look to ramp up their business in January with Mauricio Pochettino targetting changes.
Chelsea’s January transfer window has so far been one of fixing problems rather than lavishly looking to enhance their squad. It has been a week and a bit of setting things up but not being too reactive to the market forces. It has, for a change, been pretty low-key.
Loans for Eddie Beach and Alex Matos have been finalised whilst Andrey Santos is back from his failed time at Nottingham Forest. Much of the other work has been about getting into a position to ensure that departures are found for those seeking it.
Ian Maatsen looks set to leave but he may well sign a new deal before doing so. Borussia Dortmund are in advanced talks to take him to Germany for the remainder of the season, reports suggest. He is one of many that are on the potential out list, not just for this month but longer-term too.
Armando Broja is still linked with a possible move away despite currently being the only fit first-team striker whilst Trevoh Chalobah is also looking to find a new club but is just as intensely attempting to regain fitness having not yet played this season. It is Cobham that makes up the list exclusively and in Conor Gallagher there is no change there.
The 23-year-old is still stand-in captain and as important as ever for Mauricio Pochettino but that hasn’t meant he is exempt from a reel of names that could still leave. “I think you know him better than me because we’ve only worked with Conor for six months,” the head coach said of his current midfield favourite.
“I think he’s doing a fantastic job, he’s working well, he’s helping the club and us and teammates a lot. We are happy with his performances. He has an advantage because he knows the club, he knows the demands of the Premier League. We are so happy with him.”
