‘Good conversation’… Mauricio Pochettino now confirms he’s spoken to 23-year-old about his Chelsea future

Mauricio Pochettino, the manager of Chelsea, claims to have discussed Conor Gallagher’s circumstances at Stamford Bridge with him.

The midfield player Conor Gallagher’s contract expires next year, and he has been strongly linked to a move out of west London.

Speaking to football.london and other publications, Mauricio Pochettino acknowledged that he had a conversation with Gallagher regarding his current circumstances amidst all of the speculation around his future.

The 23-year-old has been a vital member of the Argentine team this season, so the manager will not want to lose him.

Gallagher has really been named captain by Pochettino in lieu of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Mauricio Pochettino has spoken to Conor Gallagher about his future

Pochettino says Gallagher’s future is a matter the pair have spoken about.

“If you want to ask me if I was talking with Conor about this situation, yes,” the Chelsea boss said. “Like all the players when some rumour happens, always it’s good to have a good conversation with the player, like Ian Maatsen, or different players like this, Andrey Santos.

“I think always it’s important for us, the coaches, to have very clear and very direct, honest conversations with the players. It’s healthy to have these type of relationships. We were talking all different subjects and if we have something to communicate, then we will.”

Mauricio Pochettino needs to convince Chelsea to keep hold of Conor Gallagher

Pochettino really needs to be speaking to his superiors, which you suspect he is doing.

There is probably not much to say to Gallagher, who surely wants to remain at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are his boyhood club and he is currently getting game time there.

So if the England international is going to stay at the Blues, it looks like Pochettino will need to persuade the club’s sporting directors and owners to retain his services.

Being a homegrown player, Gallagher represents an opportunity for Chelsea to make pure profit, an opportunity they may decide to take this month if a good offer for him arrives. Pochettino has to convince them to throw that idea away
