Chelsea predicted startling lineup vs Middlesbrough as Pochettino left with Fernandez decision

Chelsea travels to Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night to play Middlesbrough in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Chelsea has an opportunity in the Carabao Cup waiting for them. Mauricio Pochettino’s team travels to the Riverside on Tuesday night in an attempt to get an early advantage in their semifinal matchup.

It looks the Chelsea head coach will field a full-strength team because he wants his team to play with everything they have to guarantee a win. Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Benoit Badiashile feel that the match has come too soon, and Christopher Nkunku has been ruled out of the contest.

The 51-year-old does not want to see a repeat of the slow start his side suffered against Preston North End. The Blues required a much-changed second half to earn a 4-0 victory in the FA Cup having went in goalless at the halfway mark.

He said: “We need to approach the game in a different way. We need to match their desire and energy. It is a different game as it is 180 minutes. Of course, it’s about to have a different approach. I was disappointed, the players were disappointed at half time.

Today, we reviewed what we need to improve but not much time to work as our priority is to recover our physical condition to be fresh tomorrow. It is going to be tough.

“Watching the game against Aston Villa, they lose, but could win the game. It’s a good team with good ideas. It’s true they changed the system, 4-2-3-1, now they play using a different one. Good players, good coach and it will be tough and no VAR and that is another thing we need to be careful because our normal attitude is to play with VAR. We need to be cautious of that.”

Djordje Petrovic

With the Blues still making an assessment on Robert Sanchez’s recovery, Petrovic remains the club’s No.1 for the foreseeable future.

Malo Gusto

The 20-year-old is in good form and should return to the right side of the defence versus Middlesbrough.

Axel Disasi

The Frenchman is set to continue in defence for the clash against Michael Carrick’s side.

Thiago Silva

The Brazilian veteran will likely come into the team after making a goalscoring impact against Preston at the weekend. Alfie Gilchrist will be unfortunate to miss out after an impressive full debut.

Levi Colwill

The defender is set to return to left-back with Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella still out injured
