Chelsea striker picked out as Blues’ best signing of the summer

The Athletic’s summary of Chelsea’s is really interesting, and while of course you can’t really judge a signing for at least a year – and sometimes a few years – we’re starting to get the early impressions of which players could be a smash hit, and which may need time.

They picked out the Blues “best piece of business” (let’s face it, there was no shortage of options) as Nicolas Jackson, and that’s a pick that most fans would agree with.

He wasn’t the biggest name – he was playing in the Spanish third division two years ago.

He wasn’t the biggest fee – we paid just £29.9m to activate his release clause.

But he could yet have the biggest impact. Firstly he’s filling in the position of greatest need up top, and secondly he just looks… really good. Linking up play, running behind, working hard. He doesn’t look like he’s going to score at Erling Haaland-like rates, but nor did Didier Drogba, and he was the best we ever had.
