Arsenal are prepared to sell Emile Smith Rowe after receiving an approach from Chelsea.
That is according to a report from The Times.
Emile Smith Rowe, who’s just 23, has emerged as a shock target for Chelsea in the rumour mill during the final week of the transfer window.
Well-respected journalist Simon Phillips reported on his Substack yesterday that Chelsea are weighing up make a move to sign Smith Rowe.
Now, there’s fresh claims to suggest the deal has just become a bit more likely.
The Times explains that Todd Boehly’s Chelsea have now advanced their interest by making an approach for Smith Rowe.
It is explained that Arsenal’s response is they’re willing to sell their attacking midfielder, who’s already been offered to other unnamed sides in the Premier League.
The report adds there’s no price tag on the Gunners playmaker yet, but the club could sell him to help balance the sheet after spending big on incomings earlier this window.
Described as “tremendous” by Darren Ambrose on talkSPORT (2 July, 9:10am), Smith Rowe is the sort of creative attacker Chelsea need right now.
It would be very odd to imagine Arsenal’s academy graduate putting on a Chelsea shirt. However, we would’ve said the same a few months ago regarding Mason Mount in a Manchester United kit.
Smith Rowe is really struggling to get any minutes right now within Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side, but he’s still a very popular figure in the Gunners fanbase with massive potential.
The playmaker, who can play as a No 10 or a winger, has scored 18 goals in his first 97 first-team appearances for Arsenal. We suspect that number would be much higher if he had started more games, too.
