At Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s hiring has been a complete failure.
According to writer Dean Jones of GIVEMESPORT, Liverpool recruited Arthur Melo on a loan in September, but the transfer has turned out to be a “silly moment.”
The midfielder had surgery, but since his recovery he has struggled to establish himself. He will return to Juventus as the team’s forgotten man.
Liverpool completed the loan signing of Arthur Melo from Turin last summer, but his spell under Jurgen Klopp’s tutelage has not gone swimmingly.
The loan agreement contained a £32 million option to make it permanent, but the club decided not to exercise it, and on Wednesday they posted his final letter to the fans on their website.
Given that the 26-year-old has played no minutes in the Premier League since his arrival, what appeared to be a prudent, low-risk deal back in September has turned disastrous.
The Brazilian has played in just one Champions League match for Liverpool’s senior team, albeit for a brief 13 minutes. He hasn’t had much luck with Liverpool’s U21 team either, as Transfermarkt reports that he has only played 243 minutes this year.
Melo joined in a hastily arranged deadline-day move and will return to the Bianconeri with regular minutes at the forefront of his mind.
Jones called Liverpool’s last-minute acquisition of Arthur Melo a “silly moment,” even if the Liverpool-based team undoubtedly had its justifications at the time.
“I think we should remember clubs are sometimes forced into these situations where they just have to make sure that they’ve got a certain amount of numbers, and also a certain level of experience within the squad,” he stated in a statement to GIVEMESPORT.
That’s probably kind of a situation they were forced into there. You’ll look back on it as a bit of a silly moment, but I think Liverpool had their reasons at the time.”
The likes of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are among the midfielders who will leave Merseyside this summer. Arthur Melo, who makes £110,000 a week, is not the only one.
In order to compete in and maybe win the Europa League, Jurgen Klopp will comb the market for proven acquisitions this summer as his team desperately needs midfield reinforcements.
According to Rudy Galetti, who recently spoke with GIVEMESPORT, the notable acquisition of Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could represent the German tactician’s approach to football.
Alexis Mac Allister, the World Cup champion, has also been heavily linked to the English powerhouses, with Football Insider reporting that Liverpool is confident in their ability to get the Argentine.
However, Klopp’s team should be considering more than just one midfielder, as their sluggish center of the pitch frequently serves as the primary cause of their plodding season-long performances.
