Todd Boehly faces internal Chelsea fury after big transfer decisions that may prove costly

Concerns are reportedly starting to be voiced about the direction of Chelsea under Todd Boehly. The mass exodus of homegrown players at Stamford Bridge has been questioned by those within the club, with the sale of Mason Mount to Manchester United coming under immense scrutiny.

According to the Daily Mail, academy staff pushed for Conor Gallagher to stay at the club while they made their feelings clear about the sale of Mount. “Plenty of people here are not happy at Mason being allowed to leave. He was the shining light used for the kids. That’s why we want Conor (Gallagher) to stay too,” a source told the publication.

There were similar concerns raised about the sale of academy graduate Lewis Hall to Newcastle United. The 18-year-old will join the Magpies on loan this season before completing a permanent transfer next summer for £28million.

Hall is one of England’s most exciting young full-backs and his departure is said to have caused a stir with the backroom staff. It was expected that Gallagher, who has been at the club since the age of eight, would be following him out of the door before the transfer window closed.

However, Mauricio Pochettino, on the recommendation of academy staff, has chosen to incorporate him into his first-team plans this season. West Ham had a £40m bid for the 23-year-old rejected last month.

The Blues had previously been open to selling him for a fee of around £50m but are now looking at extending his contract and giving him a more important role in the side. Gallagher is expected to get a healthy run of games under his belt this year with Carney Chukwuemeka out of action for an extended period of time after undergoing knee surgery on an injury he picked up in Chelsea’s defeat to the Hammers on Sunday
