At the club’s training facility, three top Liverpool players, including attacker Diogo Jota, have been seen working on their UEFA coaching badges.
The Reds have in the past given players like Steven Gerrard, Adam Lallana, and James Milner a road to pursue coaching careers while still on the books at Anfield.
The latter of those men has already expressed a desire to carry on coaching if he were to remain at Liverpool for the upcoming season, but the 37-year-old will be let go when his contract expires this month.
The four UEFA licenses—C, B, A, and the Pro Licence—are available.
A Pro Licence is required for managers who want to lead Premier League clubs, and it often takes the module that leads to the qualification 18 months to fully complete.
However, coaches must progress players from the C Licence; three Liverpool players have already begun this process.
Fabinho and Joel Matip joined Jota at the club’s AXA Training Centre to conduct a coaching session with members of the Robbie Fowler Academy, according to a story in the Liverpool Echo.
Prior to Liverpool’s final Premier League match of the year, a 4-4 draw at Southampton, the session was held. Jota scored twice to open the contest.
The Liverpool Academy was established in 2015, and its head coach, Carl Macauley, previously worked with Trent Alexander-Arnold, a Reds academy alum.
In the meanwhile, Fowler and Jamie Carragher decided to purchase Melwood, the former home of Liverpool’s training facility, in 2021 to “create a pathway for people interested in making a career in the sports industry.”
If Jota, Fabinho, and Matip succeed in earning their coaching credentials, they might join the long list of former Liverpool players who have entered club management.
This is Anfield asserted in July that 29 former Reds players, including Paul Ince, Xabi Alonso, Gerrard, and Fernando Torres, were listed as being in management at the time.
However, since then, Gerrard and Ince have each been fired by Aston Villa and are currently jobless.
