Chelsea confirm their £35m player and ‘terrific’ 21-year-old are close to returns from injury

Chelsea provided an extensive injury update on the squad on Friday afternoon, which did include positive news regarding two players.

The Blues posted on their official website some updates regarding the fitness of several players ahead of this weekend’s Premier League fixture away at West Ham.

Benoit Badiashile and Armando Broja, who have missed pre-season with respective injuries, are now getting closer to returns to fitness.

When detailing updates on Badiashile and Broja, Chelsea posted: “At the end stages of his rehabilitation programme.”

We’ll wait for further explanation of when they may be back out on the pitch, but it sounds very positive compared to some of the other updates.

Chelsea confirmed that Blues stars Marcus Bettinelli, Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Christopher Nkunku were all continuing with their own injury recoveries.

In addition, club captain Reece James has now been added to the injury list. He is starting rehabilitation on an injury he picked up in training this week.

Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino must be frustrated he’s dealing with quite a few key players on the treatment table right now, but thankfully there’s still a lot of quality available to him.

Blues centre-back Badiashile, 22, is going to be a real boost to the defence when he’s ready for selection again.

The £35million (Sky Sports) defender was a rare shining light in a tough season last year, so we’re expecting big things from him under Pochettino.

As for Broja, the 21-year-old striker is working his way back from a long-term problem that saw him miss a huge chunk of the previous season.

We can’t wait to watch him and Nicolas Jackson battle it out for the No 9 centre-forward spot, though.

Described as “terrific” by Danny Murphy on talkSPORT, Broja is a hidden gem everybody has forgotten about in this squad.
