We can choose”- Cody Gakpo gives his two cents on Liverpool’s attacking options

Liverpool’s attacking options have received high praise from Cody Gakpo, who believes that the array of talent at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal will greatly benefit the team in the upcoming season. With the likes of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Gakpo himself, alongside promising academy talent Ben Doak, Liverpool’s attacking prowess is formidable.

Speaking to the club’s official website on our attacking options, here is what Gakpo had to say:

We have a lot of options. We have a lot of games so we can choose which option we need for each game. I think we have great options [and] that is good for the season.”

Gakpo acknowledges the importance of having multiple options to choose from, especially considering the demanding schedule of games throughout the season. Having two distinctive yet clinical options like Gakpo and Jota will surely help the Reds gain more control over the tempo of certain games. When we need a rather direct approach, we can deploy someone like Darwin who is a rocket and constantly finds himself in the right place.

This depth in the attacking department allows Klopp to rotate his players, keeping them fresh and reducing the risk of injuries or burnout.

Attacking depth on Merseyside

The attacking prowess of Liverpool was on full display in their recent pre-season campaign in Asia. A 4-0 win over Leicester City and a 4-3 loss to Bayern surely means that the Reds are doing the right things, albeit only in attack at the moment.

In addition to the established stars, Liverpool’s academy system continues to produce talented young players who can contribute to the attacking options. Ben Doak, in particular, has been identified as a promising talent who could make an impact in the first team. Klopp has shown a willingness to give opportunities to young players, and Doak could be the next academy graduate to make his mark.

Having said that, the midfield and the defensive departments need some looking into as we are surely understaffed in both those aspects. The departure of so many key players over the summer window has put us in a situation wherein we have to get players, there is no two ways about
