Liverpool met Rafa Benitez to discuss about 21-year-old La Liga star

Liverpool FC’s pursuit of midfielder Gabri Veiga has caught the attention of many fans, with journalist Ben Jacobs revealing that the club has held discussions with former manager Rafa Benitez, who is now in charge of Celta Vigo.

The 21-year-old’s impressive performances last season, including 11 La Liga goals and four assists in 36 appearances, have drawn interest from several clubs, including PSG and Arsenal alongside Liverpool. Journo Ben Jacobs claims that the Reds held conversations with former manager Rafa Benitez for Veiga and here is what he told The Boot Room via ECHO about the same:

There’s a release clause there, there’s plenty of Premier League clubs who are looking at the player. And game time is going to be quite important to Gabri Veiga as well.”

“I know for example, Liverpool haven’t moved for Veiga, but they scouted him and there was a recent conversation between someone senior at Liverpool and Rafa Benitez.”

While Liverpool has not yet made a formal move for Veiga, the fact that they have scouted him indicates a genuine interest in the young midfielder. With plenty of competition for his signature, it will be crucial for Liverpool to make their intentions clear and showcase the potential opportunities they can offer to the player.

Understandably, the player wishes for maximum game time. In a hypothetical situation wherein the Reds get in Veiga and no other midfielders this window, the promise of game-time is surely one that the Reds could keep up with.

£34m buyout clause

However, with the balance of our present midfield skewed heavily towards youth, we need a blend of experience in there following which game time might not be ideal for Veiga.

To address this concern, there has been a discussion between someone senior at Liverpool and Rafa Benitez, exploring the possibility of signing Veiga and then loaning him back to Celta Vigo to ensure he gets the desired playing time.
