Jürgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness and recovery of Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic
The 18-year-old had a breakout season for the Reds in 2022–2023; he made a total of 19 appearances and scored the club’s first senior goal against Aston Villa in December.
However, Bajcetic’s participation came to an early end in March owing to injury, and he has since been undergoing rehabilitation.
During the second portion of the press conference on Friday, when asked about his condition, Klopp responded, “Yeah, there’s progress. He and I chatted yesterday, along with the doctor. Although it will take time, there will be some reintegration around the beginning of preseason.
He is not fully trained, however. Right now, that is the forecast. Although he is fully pain-free, we must exercise caution because he is a very young player with an equally young body.
“Obviously, it’s a different injury, but Curtis [Jones] needed to be handled with extreme caution. Because you can train for two days and then need two days off, even though you feel wonderful, it’s annoying for the athlete to take any risks.
That might be part of the plan for him, but I’m not sure when it will begin. I’m hoping he’ll be able to join us at the training camp, complete these tasks, and then continue. He should then be good to start the season, but this is how these kinds of injuries work.
There isn’t really a time frame where you can say the ligament is healed after six weeks or whatever, and we can move forward from there. We are unaware of that. You must always wait for the subsequent evaluation, and once you are aware of this, you can move forward.
However, it’s encouraging because I believe he will have already completed a week or two of full training and some portions of training before the end of the preseason. That should be okay, then.
